Guinness record for longest play: Ethiraj College felicitates PG students

Ethiraj College for Women held a felicitation programme to celebrate their victory of attaining Guinness World Records for the longest play staged by PG students of Department of Human Rights and Duties Education (HR&DE) recently.

The programme was conducted by Students Union of Ethiraj College and the event was celebrated in a gala manner. The Record Holder certificate and Certificate of participation issued by the Guinness Book of World Records were distributed at the event by filmmaker Cheran, who was the chief guest.

The longest stage play, titled ‘Kaalakkooru’, was officially performed in March to commemorate International Women’s Day by the students of PG Department of Human Rights and Duties Education, Ethiraj College for Women, in association with Esakiyarajan Shanmugam, Bioscoops Entertainment Private Limited.

The play was based on various issues like infanticide, foeticide, eve teasing, rape, dowry, child rights, honour killing, casteism, environmental degradation and transgender issues.

To develop their performance skills, the students were given physical training and also had training sessions in acting, dancing and stage choreography from experts of Koothuppatarai and National School of Drama.

There were 16 witnesses from various arenas  and 2 timekeepers to witness the time of the record. The previous record’s running time was 24 hours and 20 minutes and 2 seconds while ‘Kaalakkooru’s running time was 28 hours and 34 minutes and 43 seconds, thus entering into the Guinness World Records and setting up the bar high for others.
