According to police sources, the owner Kumar, borrowed Rs 2 lakh in 2014 from MDMK functionary Nagarajan, who was reportedly into lending money at exorbitant interest rates. Kumar had paid nearly Rs 3 lakh as interest so far. Due to financial crisis, Kumar was unable to remit the interest amount.

Nagarajan then demanded a final settlement of Rs 7.3 lakh from Kumar, threatening to usurp the latter’s house, for non-payment, as the property was mortgaged to him.

Even as Kumar’s family sought more time, Nagarajan along with a few others, evicted the woman inmates and reportedly brought down the decades-old house with an excavator on Thursday. Kumar was not present during the incident. Based on a petition by Kumar’s family to the city Police Commissioner of Police, S Davidson Devasirvatham, the Sellur police registered a case under Sections 147, 451, 427, 506 (1) of the IPC against Nagarajan and nine others. Two persons, including Nagarajan, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Search on for the others.
