The police arrested two women in different incidents of chain snatching and attention diversion reported in the city.

The Ambattur police arrested a 30-year-old woman who snatched a five-sovereign chain from a woman shopkeeper and have launched a hunt for her accomplice. The accused, Revathi (30) of ICF, visited a grocery shop at Kallikuppam on December 6 with a man identified as Rajesh. While the woman waited in her two-wheeler, Rajesh casually started talking to the shopkeeper, Pechiammal, and suddenly snatched her five-sovereign chain. The duo fled the spot before the victim could raise an alarm. Based on the CCTV footage retrieved from the locality, Revathi was arrested. A hunt is on for her accomplice.


Similarly, the Tiruvanmiyur police arrrested a 38-year-old woman for indulging in a series of attention diversion incidents reported in temples inthe locality.


The accused, Bhanu Sharmi of Kalpakkam, was arrested with the help of CCTV footage and remanded in judicial custody. As many as six mobile phones and three gold chains were seized from her, the police said.
