The incident happened near the toll gate at Tirupachur village in Tirvallur district around 3 am on Tuesday. The load was coming from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to Koyambedu wholesale market.

The driver of the lorry lost control and the vehicle and it flipped on one side after hitting a median. Its two front tyres came off from the vehicle and the mishap caused traffic snarl on the road.

Immediately after the incident, police personnel were rushed to the spot and they not only co-ordinated the rescue operation and helped the injured driver and lorry owner but also made sure passersby did not help themselves to scattered onions.

The demand for onions is at its peak due to its high price in the market. The driver and owner of the lorry suffered minor injuries, the police said.

The police team from Thiruvalur taluk station left the scene only after all the scattered onions were packed and loaded on to another vehicle and sent to the Koyambedu market. The police also noted that not many people gathered at the scene because the accident happened early in the morning.
