“I actually didn’t want to be a vet,” said the resident of Namakkal and added that she wanted to pursue an MBBS but did not make the cut. However, things changed quickly when Anandi went for her first clinic visit. The first animal she treated was a rescued horse. That was when she learned how to handle animals and observe them. “Horses are very sensitive creatures. We got a horse that had a bad dog bite on its hind legs. it allowed me to treat it, but refused treatment from others,” she said.

She credits her academic success to her family. Anandi would be called in for follow-up check-ups at wee hours, and her husband or her parents and would take her to the hospital. “I got married after I completed Class 12. I have a six-year-old daughter. Yet, my family let me pursue my education. They have been very supportive throughout. My daughter would come with me to the clinic,” she said. Anandi hopes to take to the field and help farmers in matters related to milk production. “Many people are focused on earning money and fame. That’s not important. We need to put our education to good use. If I can help even one farmer, I’ll consider it a job well done,” she said. Now, she had no regrets that she was unable to pursue an MBBS, she said.

At the convocation ceremony, presided over by Governor Banwarilal Purohit, 566 students across 12 courses received their degrees. Minister for Animal Husbandry, Udumalai K Radhakrishnan was also present.
