Police advise more than 100 couples near Mahabalipuram

A police team on East Coast Road on Sunday stopped more than 100 couples, who drove to Mahabalipuram on two-wheelers without wearing helmets. They were advised about the importance of head gear before letting them proceed to the historical tourist spot.

Police started the exercise at around 10 am on Sunday. Many number of couples and friends arriving on bike without helmets were stopped as they entered Mahabalipuram. All of them were made to stand under trees. Most of the women were found standing in a corner with their faces covered, probably to mask their identities.


Police team led by inspector Ravikumar, however, told everybody that there was no need to be afraid and they were stopped only to create awareness on wearing the helmet. Rolling out statics about fatalities on Indian roads, he asked all of them to make sure that they wear helmet when they travel on two-wheelers. Many of them had kept the helmet on the bike and did not wear it.


Officials also highlighted the plight of many two-wheeler riders, who were involved in mishaps on ECR.They later advised each of them individually before allowing them to proceed totheir destinations.
