N Ganesamurthy, the son of Nagaraj, a retired Deputy General Manager of BHEL and resident from Mudukkutheru in Kallukuzhi, Tiruchy used to work in a spinning mill in Coimbatore. On November 13, he was running a high temperature and approached a private hospital. Despite being treated for several days, however, the fever did not subside, but he continued with the treatment as he was told he had viral fever.


As he showed no signs of recovery, Ganesamurthy’s parents took him to the Tiruchy General Hospital on November 22 where he tested positive for dengue and was admitted accordingly. to the special dengue ward. After the symptoms subsided, Ganesamurthy was shifted to the sixth floor of the Super Specialty ward in the GH and his father Nagaraj, was attending to him in the room. Ganesamurthy was supposed to be discharged on Saturday.


The doctors confirmed that dengue symptoms had subsidized and asked him to continue with the medicines at home. On Monday, however, Ganesamurthy again had fever. He then voiced his frustration with being unwell and tried to avoid taking his medicines.


Around 7.30 am on Tuesday, Ganesamurthy went to the terrace of the multi-specialty hospital and jumped. He fell in front of the mortuary and died on the spot. The GH police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.


Commenting on the incident, dean Vanitha said that the terrace remains locked all the time and only the plumber would open it every day. On Tuesday, when the plumber opened the terrace, Ganesamurthy used the opportunity to follow him and jumped to his death. “We are questioning our plumber for more details,” the dean said.
