Plan Your Weekend: A quick getaway to Gudiyam Caves offers an insight into the stone-age era

He discovered a stone tool — a hand axe, made, used and discarded by the stone-age man — from a gravel pit in suburban in this place.  It is a group of caves 75 km from Chennai and 12 km from Poondi reservoir. Archaeological evidence suggests that the caves were used by paleolithic man.

The site has been excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1963 and 1964. According to some trekkers, who have visited the place, the last point where your vehicle can go is the huts at the entrance of Gudiyam Village. The roads from the main road are filled with huge pebbles and one has to be careful while riding on the roads.
