Gold worth Rs 87L seized from air passengers
Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 87.5 lakh from air passengers in separate cases on Tuesday.

When they were checking passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, the officials intercepted a 40-year-old passenger on suspicion. They checked his baggage and found three gold cut bits concealed in the handle portion of the stroller suitcase.
The gold weighed about 245 grams worth Rs 8.27 lakh. In five other cases, passengers arrived from Colombo, Sharjah and Dubai were intercepted at the exit on suspicion that they were carrying gold. On personal search, 15 bundles of rubbery spread concealed in their rectum were recovered. After extraction, the gold weighing about 1.75 kg was recovered. Also, a 23-gram gold cut bit was recovered from one of their pockets. In all, gold worth Rs 59.75 lakh was seized. In the last case, Customs officials checking passengers who arrived from Dubai on Tuesday night intercepted a 37-year-old passenger and found he carried a new pasta maker. When the officials dismantled it, they found two gold pieces, weighing 576 gm worth Rs 19.4 lakh, concealed. All of them were detained for inquiry.
