Venkatesh, who suffered 80 per cent burns, had been admitted at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
While the police had already arrested his friend J Asharani (31) of Vyasarpadi under attempted murder charges, the sections were altered and she was remanded in judicial custody.
After Venkatesh’s wife separated from him, citing his relationship with Asharani, the latter moved in with Venkatesh, abandoning her husband and two children.
However, Asharani came to know that Venkatesh developed a relationship with another woman and poured petrol on him and set him on fire after a quarrel broke out between them in the zerohours of Sunday.
