Doctors confirmed that while Bharat died on Saturday, another patient Shanthi from ward 15 passed away due to myocardial infarction on Sunday. Bharath, who was on ventilation for a week, passed away despite being put under intensive care, while Shanthi died of cardiac issues.
Authorities said that six patients were brought with symptoms of vomiting, dehydration, drowsiness, low blood pressure due to septic shock last week. Two patients, B Maan and Jeya Gandhi died on Wednesday, while three, including Bharath, were being treated. One was discharged on Thursday. After being brought to the hospital, patients were suspected to have contracted cholera but the lab results tested negative for it, instead showing that all patients may have had renal dysfunction. However, authorities have not yet confirmed a specific reason for the deaths. “Two patients, Jaya Prakash and Kalaiselvan are undergoing treatment,” said Dr R Jayanthi, dean, RGGGH. Director of IMH Dr Poorna Chandrika said one of the patients was suffering from epilepsy and died due to seizures.
Public health director Dr K Kolandaisamy said there was no common reason of death and common symptoms were reported because of being in the same ward.
