    Cattle menace at Tangedco office

    For over a year now, the Tangedco Assistant Engineer’s office at Chromepet has become home for the cattle in the vicinity, posing inconvenience and even risks for the staff and the public. According to sources, the cattle menace has even forced some employees to apply for transfer.

    The Assistant Engineer’s office situated in Shanthi Nagar in Chromepet is the grievances office for hundreds of EB consumers from Radha Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Hastinapuram, Nemilichery, Zameen Roypet, Nehru Nagar and Venkatraman Nagar, who frequent to the office for variousreasons.

    The consumers who visit the office allege that the campus was filled with cattle and dung, permeating the place with unbearable stench. “We are unable to enter the premises without covering our face. We are also afraid as sometimes the cattle get agitated and try to attack us. This has been the situation for over a year. This is not just a problem for consumers but even our staff,” said a Tangedco official on condition of anonymity. As a result, some staff working in the office have even applied for transfer, he added. “For the past one year, we could not access the EB office easily as it has become a shelter for cattle. The officials should take steps to maintain cleanliness in the premise,” said K Kumarasammy from Radha Nagar.

    Tangedco officials claimed that they had sought the help of local body officials to impound the cattle. “They did catch the cattle and took them away, but the animals have returned again. The cattle owners are the reason behind this,” the Tangedco staff said.

    When contacted, Azharuddin, Assistant Engineer, Tangedco Chromepet, said, “ I am chasing the cattle every day. It is a big headache for us.” The official added that they have now decided to seek help from the public and the youngsters in the locality to find out a solution to stop the cattle from entering the premise.
