When he sensed an unusual sound from the engine at around 3.15 pm when the train was near Kavarapettai railway station, the loco pilot stopped the train and inspected the wheels. He noticed that one of the wheels was tilted, and found ball bearing used in bicycles and magnets lying near the railway track. After he alerted the authorities that the journey cannot be continued with the same engine, another engine was brought from Tiruvottiyur and the train resumed the journey around 6.45 pm.

Railway officials said that the object must have been really strong to be able to cause damage to the wheels. When contacted, Government Railway Police officials said a probe would be initiated about the incident. “It is not clear whether it is a careless act of children or action of miscreants with an intention to sabotage. An investigation is underway,” said the Railway Police official. Tension prevailed in Kavarapettai following the incident.
