Two-year-old girl drowns in water pit in Kancheepuram
A two-year-old girl drowned after falling into a pit at a village in Kancheepuram on Wednesday. The 5-foot deep pit was dug to store water supplied by the Corporation through pipes.

The girl, Sanjana, the daughter of 30-year-old farmer Muthusamy and 26-year-old Thamizharasi in Panaiyur village off East Coast Road at Edaikazhinadu near Cheyyur in Kancheepuram district.
While Muthusamy owns land, he works as a daily wage labour while Thamizharasi is ahome maker.
On Wednesday evening, when Muthusamy was out for work and Thamizharasi was busy in the kitchen, Sanjana was playing outside. Around 6 pm, Thamizharasi realised that her daughter was missing and later found the girl the pit. Neighbours rushed Sanjana to the Cheyyur Government hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The Cheyyur police have registered a case ofunnatural death and sent the body to Madurantakam Government Hospital forpost-mortem examination.
