Cop assaults teacher’s kin for hitting daughter

The incident happened on the night of November 19 at Madhavaram Milk Colony, when inspector Babu Rajendra Bose, attached to the intelligence section of the city police, went on a four-wheeler driven by another policeman to meet the teacher. The girl studies at a private school where Cynthia teaches French.

The police officer’s daughter had complained about the teacher hitting her on the back and grabbing her by the neck. The officer took the help of another policeman to get the address of the teacher.

When they reached the address, the house was locked. They enquired and found that the teacher’s aunt, identified as Selvanayagi, was staying in the same neighbourhood.

The inspector then went and tried to strike a conversation with her, which ended up in a heated argument. According to sources, the inspector asked Selvanayagi to share the contact number of Cynthia, to which she refused.

The quarrel escalated and the police officer tried to snatch the mobile phone from the woman, so that he could get Cynthia’s phone number. In the melee, he assaulted Selvanayagi and pushed her and her father Sabapathi, who tried to intervene, police sources said.

Selvanayagi, who received treatment for her injuries, filed a complaint with the Kodungaiyur police. The inspector’s wife also lodged a complaint stating that Selvanayagi had abused them on that night.

The police said that they have received the complaint from both the sides and claimed that further investigation is on. When contacted, a senior city police officer said that they were aware of the incident and added that a departmental enquiry was already going on.
