Birthday girl, two teens killed as van rams bike on ECR
Three teenagers, including a schoolgirl, died while another is battling for his life and remains unconscious after a speeding van rammed their bike on East Coast Road on Tuesday night. The victims were returning from Mahabalipuram after celebrating the girl’s birthday, said the police.

The deceased were identified as K Bharat (19) of Water Tank Colony in Kotturpuram, Mohana (15) of New Colony in Anna Nagar and Pilly (19) of Perumbakkam. The injured boy, who is yet to be identified, has been admitted to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital in a critical condition where he remain unconscious. The police said that all four were travelling on a single bike.
On Tuesday, all of them had gone to Mahabalipuram on a two-wheeler, belonging to Bharat, to celebrate Mohana’s birthday. After spending time there, they were returning on the same bike. They filled petrol at a bunk on ECR around 11.15 pm, said the police. When coming out of the bunk, a van that was travelling towards Mahabalipuram hit their two-wheeler. In the impact,all of them were thrown off and suffered severe injuries. The van driver immediately escaped from the spot.
Passers-by informed the ambulance and Mahabalipuram police, who arrived at the spot. But by then Mohana, Bharat and Pilly had died. The injured boy was rushed to Chengalpattu GH. The police identified Mohana and Bharat with the help of their mobile phones. “As the injured boy remained unconscious and we are yet to identify him,” the police said. They have launched a hunt to nab the missing van driver.
