Man snatches chain from senior citizen, arrested
A 50-year-old man was arrested on charges of snatching a four-sovereign chain from a senior citizen in Pondy Bazaar.

The accused, K Kumar (50) of Coimbatore, worked in a restaurant in Pondy Bazaar and was known to the victim, R Jothi (70) of Periyar Salai, T Nagar. Kumar would buy her groceries often, said the police. Around 7.30 am on Tuesday, Kumar visited Jothi and demanded money. When she refused, he allegedly snatched her four-sovereign chain and fled the spot. Based on her complaint, the Pondy Bazaar police registered a case and arrested Kumar. Investigation revealed that Kumar was in need of money after losing his job recently and snatched Jothi’s chain. Kumar was remanded in judicial custody.
