Abdul Hafiz, whom police said is a businessman and resident of Diwan Bahadur Shanmugam Street in Kilpauk, lodged a complaint on Saturday morning that 10 pairs of footwear kept at the entrance of his two-house building went missing between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. According to the complainant, the total worth of the footwear is Rs 76,000.

He allegedly told police that he had seen the footwear, including sandals and shoes, kept outside when he entered the house. But they were missing when he stepped out an hour later, Abdul said in the complaint lodged on Saturday night.

While the complainant has raised a suspicion over his neighbours – a group of bachelors occupying the house on rent and his domestic worker who comes from Velachery – police said that they are yet to inquire anybody, as the neighbours have not return to the room yet. “The domestic worker does not work on Sundays. So we would inquire with her on Monday when she returns to work,” said apolice officer.
