A senior official from the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) said that the government has envisaged training and skilling 20 million persons by 2023.
“To achieve this objective, the government has taken proactive measures to enhance the skilled workforce in the State both quantitatively and qualitatively, thereby transforming Tamil Nadu into a skill hub for the country,” the official said, adding, “this will ultimately attract investment to our State resulting in large scale employment generation benefiting youth.”
To achieve the target, the TNSDC will be launching a total of 32 unique skill training programmes, the official said.
Accordingly, considering the need for trained persons in security services to man business enterprises and commercial complexes, skill training in security services through the State Police department is one among the training programmes planned.
Likewise, skill training for auto drivers, nursing and technical writing through the British Council will also be started, the official added.
TNSDC has also decided to introduce short term skill training in the construction sector to candidates through the Central government’s Construction Industry Development Council, the official said.
“Other training programmes to be launched include welding and plumbing skill training through the Sri Ramakrishna Advanced Training Institute (SRATI), handicrafts skill training through the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), driver training through Ashok Leyland Driver Training Institute, skill training in light engineering through TVS Training Services, short term training in automotive sales and after sales service for school and college dropouts by CII- Bosch,” the official further said.
Stating that candidates will have to pay for a few training programmes, which will be notified, the official added that for such programmes the government will be extending scholarships to the students.
