    5.88L passengers used feeder service since August 2018: CMRL

    In little over a year, 5.88 lakh passengers used the feeder service operated by the Chennai Metro Rail as the last mile connectivity to reach their point of destination in various parts of the city, claimed an official release by CMRL.

    It stated that 53,586 passengers have utilised share auto, share taxi and metro cab feeder services facilities at the Metro Rail stations by October. “So far, a total of 5.88 lakh passengers have utilised the share auto and share taxi facilities since its launch on August 11 last year,” the release said.


    Guindy Metro station witnessed the maximum number of passengers with 11,036 boarding share autos to reach their destinations, followed by Tirumangalam and Alandur stations with at 5,352 and 5,095 passenger counts respectively. As far as share taxi services are concerned, 1,357 passengers used it in AG-DMS station followed by 1,156 commuters in Koyambedu.


    CMRL has been operating feeder services at a flat fare of Rs 5 for share auto at Guindy, Thirumangalam, Alandur, Little Mount, Ekkatuthangal, Koyambedu and St Thomas Mount in fixed routes while the share taxi service is being operated for Rs 10 per passenger from AG-DMS, Anna Nagar East, Koyambedu, Alandur and Vadapalani stations.


    In addition to the share auto and taxi services, CMRL has also entered into a contract with Mega Cabs to operate services from 16 stations including Airport, Government Estate and LIC covering six to eight km from each station at a flat rate of Rs 10. As many as 15,028 commuters have used the cab services in October with Airport topping the list with 3,558 passengers. “CMRL is in the process of extending the Metro cab feeder services to all the stations,” the release said.
