Pistol used to kill teen belonged to local politico

The investigators had taken Vijay into custody on Friday after he surrendered before the magistrate on Wednesday. Though he initially claimed to have found the gun at a garbage bin and threw it into the sea after he shot Mukesh to death by accidentally, during the grilling by police, Vijay admitted that he had given the pistol to one of his friends. Following this, police searched the latter’s house and seized the weapon.

Police said that it was country-made pistol bought from Bihar, and added that they were probing how Vijay got it. Police sources claimed that it was taken from the house of a local politician who had kept the weapon for self-defence. “The politician got it from a history-sheeter after his house was attacked with petrol bombs a few months ago. One of his sons is Vijay’s friend, and that’s how he would have got access to the weapon,” said the source. However, the investigation officer is yet to confirm it. Also, it is not clear why Vijay shot at Mukesh, who has been his friend from childhood.  The officers are grilling Vijay further to get as much information as possible before producing him before the magistrate on Monday.

The victim, Mukesh, who was a polytechnic student in Vandalur, had visited Vijay’s house on the day of the incident. The accused has been working as a food delivery service executive. Preliminary information was that Vijay shot Mukesh over a quarrel while watching a video on a mobile phone. Mukesh died on the way to the hospital.
