Delivery boy arrested for slapping woman

The arrested person was identified as Prasanth from Nehru Nagar in Velachery.

According to police, Prasanth was assigned to deliver a food parcel at a residence in Sadasivam Nagar at Madipakkam. As per the address that was reportedly given by the customer who placed the order, he went to the house to deliver the food.

At the time, there was a 25-year-old woman hailing from North India who was alone at the house. Police said she knew only English and Hindi. When Prasanth rang the bell and tried to deliver the order, she maintained that she had not ordered any food. The woman said he might have come to the wrong house. But Prasanth insisted that he had come to the correct address as given in the order, and shouted at her. Angry over this, the woman shouted back at him. Infuriated over this, Prasanth allegedly slapped the woman and left the place.

Soon after the incident, the woman filed an online complaint with the city police. After receiving information, a police team from Madipakkam went to the house. They checked the footage from the CCTV there and identified Prasanth. He was arrested.

Police registered a case under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Woman Harassment Act. Prasanth was remanded in judicial custody and sent to Puzhal prison. On Sunday night, five men, including three food delivery boys of an app-based company, got into a fight with a customer at Ashok Nagar when the latter allegedly questioned the delay in delivering the food he had ordered. Police booked two of them, who were let off with a warning.
