A group of ganja peddlers entered the house of a youth who tipped-off the police about their business, and attacked the family in Adambakkam on Sunday night. The informant’s brother and sister were injured in the attack.

The police arrested 11 members of the gang, including six women. The injured persons were identified as Sevanthi (18) and Dhanush (15), daughter and son of Pushpavalli of Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam. The police said that Dhanush is a Class X student of a government school, and Sevanthi and Paul Raj are working.

The ganja peddlers believed that Paul Raj (20), brother of the injured, had informed the police about their illegal activity in the locality. Paul informed the Adambakkam police that Vicky (23), Vinoth (24), and Udaya (18) were supplying ganja and other drugs to students and youngsters in the locality.

As the information about the tip-off reached Vicky, he along with a group of people, including a few women, went to Paul’s house. But he was not present there at that time. The group attacked his sister Sevanthi and Dhanush with knives and wooden logs. They left the house after threatening to kill the family if Paul continued to inform the police. The two teenagers, who suffered injuries, were rushed to Royapettah Government Hospital.

After Pushpavalli filed a complaint with the Adambakkam police, 11 of the gang members were arrested. However, the police are yet to nab Vicky, Vinoth and Udaya, who are absconding. A petition was filed with the City Police commissioner on behalf of Sevanthi.

Local sources said they suspected that some police officers were revealing the details of the informants to the suspects, leading to such attacks. A few months ago, a 55-year-old man was attacked by a group of men at Anakaputhur cemetery after he tipped-off the police regarding ganja supply.
