    According to party sources, “The high-level meeting of the party to discuss the ways to win maximum number of seats in local body elections will be held at the party headquarters on November 6. The meeting will be attended by MLAs, MPs and all the district secretaries.” The meeting comes after the recent success of the party in the Vikravandi and Nanguneri by-elections by a vast margin. The party is highly jubilant over the recent success and wanted to carry on the victorious mood in the local body elections too.

    The local body elections, which were not held in the state after 2011 ought to have held in 2016, but since then, the state government which was facing turbulence after the demise of the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and with her aide VK Sasikala sent to prison, the elections were postponed citing various reasons.

    However, after the recent bypolls victory many top AIADMK leaders, including party Convenor O Panneerselvam said that the local body elections would be conducted by December. The statement of Panneerselvam has elicited a sense of joy among the AIADMK local leaders as they were waiting eagerly for civic polls for the past three years.

    Sources also said that the informal information has been passed on to the party leaders and were asked to ensure that they all should attend the meeting. At the meeting, the appointment of functionaries to prepare the list of contestants, the election working body and so on will be discussed and will be constituted.

    Sources further said that the seat sharing options with other alliance parties will also be discussed in the meeting.

    Meanwhile, the high-level meeting of MDMK was conducted in the party headquarters in Chennai, on Sunday to discuss about the local body elections. In the meeting, MDMK general secretary Vaiko directed all the party district secretaries to send the list of interested persons who wish to contest in local body elections and entrusted the job of finalising the list to five top party functionaries, including party Deputy General Secretary Mallai Sathya.
