A 22-year-old woman, who suffered injuries after falling from her bike and got hit by a truck when she was stopped for vehicle check by police in Red Hills in September, committed suicide at her house on Friday night.
The deceased, Priya alias Priyadarshini of Jothi Nagar in Padianallur, was discharged from Government Stanley Medical College Hospital a few days ago after being treated for leg injuries that she sustained in the accident. But she complained of unbearable pain, claimed her kin.
The accident happened on September 20, when Priyadarshini was riding a two-wheeler to her mother’s house in KK Nagar near Red Hills with a cake to celebrate the latter’s birthday. When she was riding on Tiruvallur High Road near Gandhi Nagar around 7 pm, a Home Guard tried to stop her – Priya was reportedly not wearing a helmet.Â
She lost her balance and fell on the road. Before she could stand up, a truck hit her from behind. This created tension in the area as the public went on a protest and set the home guard’s bike on fire, apart from damaging the truck glass panels.
Though she was married to one Yashwanth, she stayed at her mother’s house after being discharged from the hospital. On Friday night, she hanged herself in the house. It was her mother who first saw her body and alerted Sholavaram police. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination. However, when contacted, Sholavaram police maintained that she committed suicide due to familial issues.
