Conductor dies as govt bus rams truck, driver critical, passengers hurt
A 42-year-old TNSTC conductor died and 13 others, including the driver, were injured after the bus rammed a container truck from behind near Padi in the wee hours of Saturday.

The deceased, Veeramuthu (42) of Red Hills, suffered grievous injuries on his head and chest, and died on the way to the hospital. The driver, Govindasamy (53) of Alamathi in Tiruvallur, has been admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with injuries on his leg. He is critical, said the police.
The accident happened around 2.45 am on the 200 Feet Road at Dadankuppam near Padi flyover when the TNSTC bus was on the way to Koyambedu mofussil bus terminus from Nellore.
On information, the Tirumangalam traffic investigation police registered a case and have launched a hunt for the truck crew. The police suspect that either the bus driver might have fallen asleep and rammed the truck or the truck drivers might have slowed down the vehicle suddenly leading to the accident. Further investigation is on.
There were 12 passengers in the bus when the accident happened. All of them have been admitted to KMC Hospital with minor injuries. They were identified as Jagannathan (31) of Choolaimedu, Aruldoss (57) and Lingayya (60) of Red Hills, Suresh (30) and Srinivasan (57) of Gummidipoondi, Varghese (33), Chandrasekar (30), Venkatesalu (48), Krishnammal (54), Johny (25) of Nellore, and Devi (48).
