A 26-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death in full public view near Tirumullaivoyal railway station on Wednesday morning.
Chennai
The deceased was identified as Santhosh Kumar, a resident of Nethaji Cross Street in Periyar Nagar in Tirumullaivoyal. He was the brother of a local AIADMK leader.
The victim was returning home after dropping his child at school when the attack took place. The police said that the gang had surrounded him and started attacking with sharp weapons. After inflicting injuries all over the victim’s body, they escaped from the spot.
Tension prevailed in the locality as the murder took place around 9.30 am in full public view. Passers-by rushed him to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Santhosh had a couple of cases, including a murder charge, pending against him. The police have registered a case and are inquiring if the murder was a revenge killing. He also had rivalry with some people and the officers are probing that angle as well, said sources.
“It is possible that he was murdered over a recent rivalry,” the police noted. They are also trying to retrieve CCTV footage from the locality to identify the suspects. Further investigation is on.
