Abandoned newborn boy rescued from EMU
A newborn boy found abandoned on an EMU train was rescued at Chengalpattu in the wee hours of Thursday.
Chennai
The boy was born only a week ago, the police said quoting the doctors at the Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital. The last EMU from Chennai Beach reached the Chengalpattu railway station around 1 am. A Railway Protection Force (RPF) team that was in the station heard cries of a child from the ladies’ compartment.
When they checked inside, they found a baby wrapped in a towel inside a green colour bag kept under one of the seats. They rescued him and informed the Chengalpattu Government Railway Police (GRP), who in turn alerted the Child Helpline. On Thursday early morning, Sagayamary, an employee of Child Helpline, took the child to the hospital.
Doctors, who checked the boy, said that he was healthy. He has been kept at the hospital for observation, they added.
The Chengalpattu GRP are trying to identify the person who left the child on the train. They said that the compartment was empty when the train reached Chengalpattu and added that the person who abandoned the boy must have got down in Singaperumalkoil or Paranur.
