Polytechnic students to gain from study abroad scheme
After engineering students, now government polytechnic students in Tamil Nadu will have a chance to participate in foreign technical training programme to enhance their skills at the international expertise meet in their respective fields.

At present, only engineering students studying in government institutions were taken to foreign countries to develop their technical skills by visitingvarious universities.
A senior official from the Directorate of TechnicalEducation told DT Next that the foreign technical training programme for government engineering students was launched in 2017 for thefirst time.
Accordingly, under the scheme, the first time a batch of 92 engineering students and eight faculty members visited technical institutions and universities in Spain, Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia for 15 days.
The official said last year the second batch comprising of 99 engineering students and five faculty members visited the universities and technical institutions in Australia, Germany and Japan.
“Following the request of the students and parents, the scheme will also be extended to polytechnic students studying in government institutions across the State,” he added.
He said nearly 100 polytechnic students will be selected on the merit basis and will be given an opportunity to visit educational institutions abroad with the guidance of faculty members.
The official stated that the Higher Education Department will be spending nearly Rs 1.50 crore for the foreigntechnical training programme scheme for polytechnicstudents.
The official later added that the programme will be implemented every year with more number of students that will participate in the programme.
“The first batch of polytechnic students is expected to go abroad during January next year,” he said.
The authorities were getting in touch with the management of various foreign technical institutions to accommodate the visitingIndian students.
The official said at present a total of 85 government polytechnic colleges comprising about 25,000 students are functioning in the State.
“Girl students will be given high priority regarding the scheme,” he said adding even faculty members who will be accommodating the students will be selected on theirperformance basis.
