    Overspeeding causes death of bike rider

    Two overspeeding bikes collided head-on with a car near Santhome in the zero hours of Saturday, in which one person died on the spot and two others were admitted to a hospital with injuries, said the police.

    The deceased, Ganapathy (32) of Mandaveli, who was riding one of the bikes, died on the spot. Saranraj (25) of Okkiyam was riding pillion with Ganapathy. The rider of the other bike was identified as Seeman (25) of Alwarpet.


    The police said all three of them were under the influence of alcohol and suspect that they might have indulged in a drag race on the road when the accident happened. Around 12.30 am, they rammed a car near Santhome Higher Secondary School.


    On information, the Shastri Nagar traffic investigation police went to the spot and sent Ganapathy’s body to Government Royapettah Hospital (GRH). Saranraj was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, while Seeman was undergoing treatment for a fracture in his leg at GRH. The car driver was detained for an inquiry.


    Woman dies as bike skids on flyover


    In another incident, a 58-year-old woman died after the bike she was riding pillion skidded on Padi flyover on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Kalyani of Kolathur. Her husband Selvarajan, who was riding the bike, suffered minor injuries in the accident. As they climbed the flyover from Villivakkam, Selvarajan suddenly lost balance and the bike skidded on the road. Kalyani suffered head injuries and was rushed to KMC. However, she died without responding to treatment. Tirumangalam traffic police are inquiring the incident.
