After rain lashed the city in the past week, the foul smell emanating from the garbage littered on the roads have worsened. The garbage mixed with rainwater lies uncleared on the main road.

Residents rue that the locality, which has many residential apartments, is not maintained properly by the civic authorities as the complaints of the residents are not being addressed.

"The garbage strewn on the main road has been a perennial issue. I have raised the issue with zonal officers and local civic authorities but there has been a minimal response. The trees in the locality were cut last month but the debris has not been cleared and that has added to the pile of garbage," said Raghu Kumar, a resident of the locality.

"The debris has made the road slippery after the rain. The garbage covers a part of the road, making it difficult for commuters and pedestrians to pass through. Civic authorities need to address the problems the residents are facing," said Abhinaya, a resident.

The common woe of the residents is that the debris will also make the area a breeding ground for mosquitoes. "Cases of fever and dengue are being reported so often in the city. Despite talking about the importance of cleanliness, the civic bodies are not adhering to the same," said R Kalyani, a resident of Patel Road.

When contacted, the zonal officials admitted that they have received complaints regarding the issue and they will take an action soon.

"Corporation workers are cleaning the locality regularly and the workers in that particular zone will be communicated regarding the issue so that the problem can be resolved soon," said the zonal officer.
