    Pre-Deepavali raids: Vigilance teams seize Rs 19.8 lakh from 17 govt offices across State

    During their raids targeting the officials receiving Deepavali gifts and cash at 17 government offices across the State in the last couple of days, the sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption seized Rs 19.80 lakh unaccounted cash.

    The raids were carried out in government offices, including sub registrar offices, Tasmac offices, BDO offices, RTO offices, etc.


    The highest amount that the anti-corruption agency seized from a single office during the operation on Wednesday and Thursday was Rs 4.67 lakh that was seized from the sub registrar office in Ambattur, the DVAC said on Friday.


    Among other operations, the sleuths raided the office of District Fire Officer located in the Madras High Court campus, from where they seized Rs 1.6 lakh unaccounted cash. In Kancheepuram, searches at the office of the Regional Transport Officer yielded Rs 86,510 while another DVAC team unearthed Rs 58,300 unaccounted cash from the office District Adi-Dravida Welfare Office inTiruvannamalai district.


    DVAC team seized Rs 1.45 lakh from the Keelkarai municipal office in Ramanathapuram, while the raiding party seized Rs 35,000 from Tasmac shop in Karupayeeurani, Madurai. At Theni, the officials managed to seize Rs 82,000 cash from the office of Motor Vehicle Inspector in Uthamapalayam.


    The vigilance team seized Rs 29,000 from Venmbakottai taluk office in Virudhunagar, while another squad seized Rs 95,000 from joint sub registrar office in Pudukkottai. Those raided the BDO office in Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi seized Rs 2.24 lakh. The DVAC sleuths that raided the Thiruverambur sub registrar officer in Tiruchy seized Rs 1.67 lakh while another Rs 1.05 lakh unaccounted cash was recovered from Cuddalore RTO.


    The raiding squads also seized Rs 82,000, Rs 51,000, Rs 89,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively from the development office, village panchayat, Tirupur; assistant director of quality control office, Theni; DE, Tangedco, Sathyamangalam; district manager office, Tasmac, Perambur; and BDO office, Coimbatore.
