Two men were arrested in Chennai and Coimbatore in connection with two job fraud cases linked to railways. They have cheated more than 100 people of Rs 80 lakh.
Chennai
In the first case, Sathyamoorthy (40) of Tiruchy was secured by Railway Protection Force at MGR Chennai Central on Tuesday. He was arrested after Gopi, a victim, approached the RPF and sought their help.
RPF police contacted him over phone posing as job seekers and asked him to come to Chennai. He was secured when he reached the station and inquiries revealed that he has cheated about 100 persons in the same manner.
The Police said that he posted online ads for Khalasi vacancies in railways and asked the applicants to transfer money to his account. However, he did not get jobs to them as promised and cheated them. Jayabalaji and Devaraj of Valasavarakkam are said to be his partners in crime. The case has been transferred to Central Crime Branch.
Similarly, the Coimbatore railway police have arrested a man for cheating his friend and 9 others to the tune of Rs 18.56 lakh on the promise of getting jobs in railways.
The accused, M Jaganathan of Pothanur, met one of the victims, B Rajendran (60) of Ondipudhur, near Coimbatore in 2015, the police said. Rajendran believed when Jaganathan told him that he and his wife are Grade I signal maintainers and can help find employment for his daughter. He gave Jaganathan Rs 18.56 lakh from his relatives to get jobs for 10 persons.
The railway police registered a case and nabbed the accused near Coimbatore railway station. He was remanded in judicial custody.
