Wouldn’t pleasing your family’s taste buds this festive season be much easier if you already prepared a jar of condensed milk that you can douse your sweet dishes with? Here’s how you can prepare condensed milk at home. Use it in homemade ice creams, kulfis, brownies, cupcakes, halwas, and even as a topping to your pancakes or French toasts.

Condensed milk can be prepared using two methods — a cooking method and a no-cooking one. For the cooking method, take full-fat or low-fat milk along with sugar in a 5 to 1 ratio. For a litre of milk, you’ll need 200 grams of sugar. Take the milk in a heavy bottomed pan and let it come to a boil. Once it boils, add sugar and a pinch of baking soda to it. Stir till the milk to dissolve the sugar. Keep the pan on a low flame and let it simmer for about 30-35 minutes till the quantity reduces to about half, while constantly stirring to avoid burning. Cool it down and store in a jar.

For a no-cook method, take boiling water in a blender and add a quarter cup of margarine to it. Add in two cups of sugar, four cups of dried milk powder and blend the ingredients together until well combined. Store it in a dry container and keep it refrigerated to use whenever required.
