A Corporation official said the civic body had constituted an internal committee to recommend measures to be taken to help its students crack the tough, national level entrance exam. “The committee has recommended the civic body to start online coaching centres within the school premises. The senior officials have accepted the recommendation,” the official said.

As per the proposal, as many as 21 higher secondary schools would have online NEET coaching centres. Online coaching classes would be conducted by a private organisation, which would prepare model question paper and online model tests. Before finalising the private organisation, online coaching classes were started at five schools on a trial basis. “Under this initiative, around 700 students studying science group in our schools would benefit. During the coaching, students’ performances would be analysed, and additional care would be given to those students struggling in model tests,” the official said. It is learnt that the civic body would incur an expenditure of Rs 5 lakh to conduct the coaching classes every academic year.

The official added that the State Education Department is conducting NEET coaching centres in 12 government schools, government-aided schools and city Corporation schools. Of the 12, four centres are functioning in Chennai Corporation schools. “Any student of government schools, government-aided schools and Chennai Corporation schools can attend the coaching classes being run by the government. However, only students studying in Chennai Corporation schools will be training in our online coaching centres,” the official said.
