The DVAC has registered a case against C Deepa, K Kalai Babu, office assistant and S Ravichandran, who was presented as a computer operator by the motor vehicle inspector.
The officers had seized the money from the RTO check post on Chennai – Bengaluru highway on October 1. During the raids, they recovered Rs 50,900 from the drawer of motor vehicle inspector Deepa’s table and Rs15,000 was recovered from a bureau in the front area near the computer.
When questioned, Ravichandran told the investigators that he received Rs 300 as daily wage from the motor vehicle inspector and that he had been ‘working’ at the check post since 2011.
Another man identified as Prasanth who was put in place as Deepa’s driver received Rs 500daily. The man also claimed to be her relative.
Another person, identified as Muthu, who was ‘employed’ on a daily wage of Rs 700 said that his job was to collect bribe from motorists forstamping permits.
Three others identified as Vinothkumar, Manoj Kumar, Naveen were also found ‘working’ for the official. They were mainly entrusted to streamline the vehicle queue and to ‘guide’ motorists about the procedures while collecting bribe from them. They were paid from Rs 300 to Rs 400 daily by the motor vehicle inspector, the DVAC document stated.
