Gang kills 2 men drinking in Tasmac bar after 10 pm in Perumbakkam

The police sources said that the incident happened well past 10 pm, the deadline for Tasmac shops to down shutters across the State.

The deceased were identified as Stephan and Anand, both aged 23. They were residents of First Main Road in Perumbakkam, the police said. Stephan was working as an autorickshaw driver while Anand had been working as a lorry cleaner.

After preliminary inquiry, the police said that the double murder could be a revenge killing in connection with an attack on a few villagers that was reported during a temple festival held six months ago. Even last week, a group had quarrelled with the duo when they were consuming alcohol sitting inside Stephan’s autorickshaw.

After talking to the witnesses, the police team said that six attackers reached the spot on three bikes and spotted the duo drinking in a bar on Sholinganallur–Medavakkam Road on Monday night.

The gang members, who approached the youth, spoke to them briefly and then started attacking the duo with machetes. After hacking them several times, the gang members escaped from the spot on their bikes, even as the others watched the incident in a state of shock.

Immediately, Tamsac employees alerted the Pallikaranai police station. A paramedical team reached the spot in an ambulance and found that Stephan had already succumbed to injuries. While Anand was taken to Chromepet Government Hospital, a medical team declared him dead on arrival.

The Pallikaranai police have registered a case and nabbed four suspects. They are also on the lookout for two others involved in the case.
