Fundraising concert to help elderly destitutes in city

Their aim is to serve elderly needs in a grand manner and empower them to live an active and healthier life. To raise funds for the upcoming activities, team Maitri will be organising a Carnatic concert called The Journey of life by Padmashri awardee Aruna Sairam on October 18 at The Music Academy, TTK Road, from 6.30 pm onwards.  

"Maitri is the senior citizens support arm of Frontenders Foundation that was created to specifically ease the challenged living of our seniors. The main objectives of Maitri are nutrition for the destitute elderly, adoption of indigent old-age homes, financial support of underfunded elderly self-help groups, sponsoring medicines and medical equipment and sponsoring surgeries for the underprivileged. By 2020, we are planning to serve 1 lakh destitute seniors citizens in the city. For this, we are raising money through a concert by Aruna Sairam. The Carnatic singer suggested the title The Journey of Life because it will help anyone relive the moments they have lived. At the music presentation, she is going to reiterate on the feast and love that one earns at the end of life," says Suganthshree Sudanthiram, programme manager of Maitri.

The team behind Maitri and Frontenders Foundation has planned various activities to support elders. A few include ‘one meal a day plan’ which will ensure 500 poor elderly are fed a bare minimum of one meal per day, cataract surgery for at least 20 elders every month and supply of free medications.
