Miscreants choose ‘blackspot’ to snatch chain from woman
Even though most parts of the city have been brought under CCTV coverage, a bike-borne duo has managed to evade its watchful eyes by choosing a blackspot in Perungalathur to snatch a 10-sovereign chain.

The incident happened on Saturday night when the victim, Gandhimadhi (58) of Kumaran Nagar, was going back home after attending the festival at a neighbourhood temple. As she was walking along with her son and daughter-in-law, a bike-borne duo snatched Gandhimadhi’s 10-sovereign chain and fled the spot.
Based on her complaint, Peerkankaranai police inspected the spot and have registered a case. A hunt was launched for the unidentified duo.
Similarly, two men lost their mobile phones to snatchers near Perambur railway station in the wee hours of Sunday. One of them, Karthik (18) of Madhavaram, was returning home from Thanjavur and when he was waiting to board a bus, a three-member gang intercepted him. They snatched his phone and fled the spot. A few hours ago, anauto driver, too, was relieved of his mobile phone by unidentified men at the same spot.
Sembium police have registered a case and are inquiring if the same gang was behind bothincidents. Further investigation is on.
