Caught in slush, two kids drown in Cooum
Two children, who were part of a group of friends bathing in the Cooum, died after being stuck in the slush in the river near Thousand Lights area on Sunday afternoon. Another child was rescued by passers-by and is now undergoing treatment.

On Sunday, a group of eight children, all residents of Greams Road, Thousands Lights, had ventured into the river to take bath behind Thideer Nagar. Police said P Prateep (8), S Rutheesh Kumar (12) and Stephan (13) got stuck in the slush. Seeing this, the others raised an alarm and alerted the passers-by. Though they managed to rescue Stephen, they could not go near Pradeep and Rutheesh, police added.
Following an alert, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Triplicane rushed to the spot but by the time they could reach the boys, they had died. The bodies of Pradeep and Rutheesh were recovered from the slush and were sent to Kasthurba Gandhi Government Hospital. Stephen is recovering at the Royapettah Government Hospital.
The Thousand Lights police registered a case and are inquiring.
