The arrested persons were identified as Shine (23), Prem Kumar (22) and Abinash (23) of Pallavaram, and Senthil Kumar (28) of Old Perungalathur. All of them were working as delivery executives of an online firm.
The victims, Misha (29) of Punjab and Poorva (21) of Rajasthan, working as cabin crew for Air India, have been staying in a house in Tirumudivakkam.
On Thursday night, a weekly off for them, Misha and Poorva went to a mall in Pallavaram to watch a film. After the film got over, both were returning home on a two-wheeler at around 1 am. When they were near Tirumudivakkam, a group of men intercepted their scooter and attacked them. The women raised alarm, resulting in the group escaping from the spot with the two-wheeler.
After the incident, the women reached back home by walk. On Friday morning, they filed a complaint with the Shankar Nagar police station. When they checked the CCTV footage from the area, the police identified the accused as delivery executives of an online store from their t-shirts.
On investigation, they found that the four persons were working at the Nagalkeni branch in Chromepet and that they did not turn up for work on Friday. The police secured all the four from their houses and recovered the two-wheeler that was left for service at a mechanic shop. The police have registered a case and remanded them in judicialcustody.
Air India officials said that they were not aware of the incident as it happened after duty hours. The officials added that they ensure that the crew are dropped at their home after duty using the firm’s transport facility.
