Those who watch or share child pornography using the internet will attract police action under the Information of Technology Act and Pocso Act, warned M Ravi, additional director general of police, who heads the Crime against Women and Children unit.

The officer also said that details and IP addresses of those watching/sharing child porn were send to Tamil Nadu police by the Union Home Ministry. The State police are expected to start tracking down the child porn viewers soon.

According to ADGP Ravi, the Union Home Ministry received a report from the US regarding child pornography. Based on that, the Centre has send a list of such users to State police.

“It is regrettable that Tamil Nadu has such a distinction. But we will make sure that the State is removed from the list by next year by taking necessary steps,” the official added.

The State police has received more than thousand internet protocol (IP) addresses of those who watch child pornography in Tamil Nadu from the central government. The police have now started tracing the addresses of these people by getting the details from internet service providers.

“Once we get the details, we will start taking action against them. If convicted, such offenders can get three to seven years of jail term,” the official noted.
