R Lalitha, joint commissioner (Revenue and Finance) of Chennai Corporation, said that as many as 29,899 voters (which is 0.78 per cent) in Chennai district used the mobile application to verify their details. “Of 29,899 voters 27,287 had confirmed their details are correct. Only 2,612 voters submitted respective forms to make corrections,” she added.

As of now, there are 38.18 lakh voters in Chennai district. Voter Helpline Mobile application was launched on September 1 and the voters could verify and make corrections using the application till September 30. However, the deadline has been extended and the voters could utilise the application till October 15.

Apart from the mobile phone application, differently-abled and senior citizen voters can make corrections by calling 1950 toll-free number or visiting voter facilitation centres and e-Seva centres. Voters should provide their EPIC number and valid ID proof to make corrections.

In a move facilitating the voters, who miss the opportunity of making corrections, Lalitha assured that special camps would be conducted in November, in which the voters could submit their applications.

It is learnt that the civic body would release draft electoral roll for local body elections on Friday, before releasing integrated electoral list on October 15. “Electoral roll for local body elections has been prepared using software developed by ECI. The software helped us to segregate voters based on their divisions,” another official said.
