One case is related to the rape of a minor by a neighbour while the other case involves a headmaster of school, who sexually assaulted a student with speaking and walking disabilities.
Both the incidents happened in 2015 and the said public prosecutor has been accused of threatening the victims. In the case of the minor girl being raped by the neighbour, before the girl was called for examination, the woman public prosecutor, who was assigned the case and was expected to defend the victim, reportedly asked her to either marry the accused or take the money he was offering and drop the case.
When the victim refused to tow the PP’s line, the prosecutor made it look like she had been in love with her rapist, during the argument, the victim said.
Police has promised to initiate action aon the complaints given, said Sherin Bosko, from Nakshatra Rape Crisis Centre, the NGO, which has been supporting the victims to fight the cases.
In the second case where a schoolgirl was allegedly raped by her school headmaster in 2015, the public prosecutor attempted to coerce the parents into taking money from the accused. The family of the victim moved the Madras High Court seeking to transfer the case. But the HC had directed the PP and police to proceed as per the law. The suspect was acquitted by the court stating the prosecution had failed to prove the case.
A police officer from Tiruvallur while confirming the receipt of the complaints said they would have to prepare a report on the subject and submit it to the District Collector for further action.
