Police said that the incident happened at the house of one Kannaiyyan, located on Thulukananthaman koil street. However, the owner of the house was staying in Chennai city.
On Tuesday night, a foul smell began to emanate from the house that had remained locked for a period of time. Following this, some villagers grew suspicious and noticed cows inside the house, immediately they broke open the back door and found 7 cows to be deceased while they rescued two.
The police said that at least 7 families in the village had found their cows missing in the last two weeks and were frantically searching for it. Only on Tuesday late evening they came to know that their missing cows were locked inside the house.
The two cows rescued from the spot has been sent to Guduvanchery veterinary hospital for further treatment. The carcasses of the animals were sent to Vepery veterinary hospital for post-mortem.
The police indicated that the cows could have been stolen by a gang and kept in the house over a period of time with a plan to transport it.
“Only after we get the post-mortem report, we will know what exactly caused the death of the cows,” Kayar police said. The death could have happened because of starving or poisoning, the police added. Police have not ruled out the possibility of cows dying of snake bite.
