HRD Minister inaugurates research centre at SRMIST
Union HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, inaugurated a new research centre of SRM Institute of Science and Technology on its Kattankulathur campus near Chennai on Monday.

The state-of-the-art research centre is estimated to be about Rs 120 crore. The Union Minister also presented Rs six lakh worth prizes and certificates to winners of various competitions and events held as part of Techno-Management fest, ‘Aaruush, which brings out the hidden talents of the students.
The Union Minister stated that the rapid strides in the field of advanced medicine have been made possible due to developments in the field of information technology and space research helps further development in many technological fields.
“New inventions and skills for research and innovation have made such things possible,” the Minister said.
Speaking at the event, SRM Chancellor and Lok Sabha member, TR Paarivendhar, described that a satellite launched by SRM students as SRM Group’s great achievement. The satellite was launched with the help of space scientists in 2011. “After 8 years, it is still functioning after 40,000 orbits,” he said.
Indian cricket star, Suresh Raina, was the guest of honour who unveiled the commemorative souvenir of the event. Raina described the SRM Institute as a “mini-India” as students from different parts of the country, speaking various languages, study here.
“Education is the backbone of the country. With it, the students not only help their families but also the entire country,” he said and recalled how former president Abdul Kalam was an inspiration for him and that everyone should follow his ideals.
Raina also recollected the words of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as how information technology has brought the world into one classroom. He exhorted the students to stay dedicated and focused.
SRM Institute of Science and Technology, which is at the forefront of providing quality higher education in the country, has been encouraging students to become top-notch researchers, by setting up modern research labs and earmarking funds for them.
