Wanted to settle down in Chennai post retirement, says Tahilramani
Former Chief Justice V K Tahilramani wanted to settle down in Chennai post retirement and made public her love for the city during her farewell function held on Friday.
Chennai
She said “In the one year, I have been here, I have gotten attached to the city, for various reasons. For one, it has better climate than Mumbai. No torrential rains like we have in Mumbai. Not only that, less pollution, more greenery, and better infrastructure, not only in the city of Chennai, but also all over the state and because of that, I was thinking - me and my husband were thinking — of settling down in Chennai and we took steps in that direction, we purchased a property here in Chennai — a flat.”
“But then fate had different things in store. Now, we will think again give it a month or two and take a final decision on settling in Chennai or not,” Justice Tahilramani added.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court Collegium’s decision to transfer her from Madras High Court to Meghalaya High court were reportedly owing to her short working hours in the court; the manner in which she abruptly dissolved a bench hearing Idol theft cases; her perceived proximity to a senior politician of the state’s ruling party; and her purchase of two properties in Chennai.
