2 women run over by buses in Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar
In a gap of 20 hours, two women were fatally knocked down by MTC buses in different incidents in Vadapalani bus terminus and Ashok Nagar.

K Meena (50) of Virugambakkam, who works as a pharmacist at a private hospital in Vadapalani, was returning home around 8 pm on Tuesday when she was hit by an MTC bus. When Meena was in the Vadapalani bus terminus, a bus from Kelambakkam entered the premises, hit Meena and went inside the depot without stopping. Meena, who suffered grievous head injuries, was rushed to the nearby hospital where she died a few hours later.
On information, the Vadapalani police registered a case and went through the CCTV footage in the locality to identify the bus that killed her. Later, the driver identified as P Rajendran (35) was arrested under Section 304A of IPC (causing death by negligence) and remanded in judicial custody. The investigation officer said that the driver fled the spot after causing the accident.
On Wednesday, a 26-year-old woman was knocked down by an MTC bus on Duraisamy Road in Ashok Nagar around 3 pm. The deceased was identified as Kalaiselvi, a flower vendor from Madhavaram, who was on her way to work after buying flowers at Koyambedu market.
An MTC bus (route no: 12B) that was travelling from Foreshore Estate to Koyambedu knocked her down from behind and she died on the spot. On information, the Guindy traffic investigation police registered a case and sent her body to Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy. A case was registered and the driver Kumaresan was arrested.
