More heavy spells expected in city this week, says RMC

The rains have been beneficial for the State this month, already surpassing the normal rain for September – 329.7 mm as against 305.8 mm.

The heaviest rain was recorded in Villupuram (7 cm), while other districts including Tiruvallur, Theni, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Karur received at least 4 cm rain on Sunday. Meanwhile, the met department has issued heavy rainfall warning at isolated places over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Karur, Theni, Dindigul, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. Fairly widespread rain is expected in various parts of the State in the next five days, said RMC officials.

Weather blogger Pradeep John also stated that there was a high probability that various parts across Tamil Nadu would receive high intensity rains in the coming days. Such was the intensity of the spell received on Sunday that some places recorded about 150 to 200 mm/hr, bringing more rain within in a short span of time, he said.

On Sunday, the maximum temperatures recorded in Nungambakkam was 32.9 degree Celsius, while Meenambakkam recorded 32.6 degree Celsius. The minimum temperatures recorded were 26.5 degree Celsius and 25.8 degree Celsius at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively.
