Seven part of mob that set bike on fire held
A day after angry public set a Home Guard’s bike on fire following an accident in which a 24-year-old woman fell down from her two-wheeler and suffered injuries on her leg, Sholavaram police arrested seven persons on Saturday.

The woman, Priyadarshini, was on the way home on her vehicle when police on vehicle check tried to stop her. She lost control and fell down, and a container lorry that was behind her vehicle ran over her leg. The public who witnessed this became enraged and damaged the lorry and also set ablaze a bike belong to a Home Guard official part of the police team. After their attempts to pacify the crowd failed, the police had to resort to cane charge. People dispersed after Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police P Aravindan visited the spot and assured action.
On Saturday, Sholavaram police picked up seven persons – Anbu (32), Saravanan (29), Vincent (24), Sureshkumar (31), Karthik (27), Velayudam (38), and Deenadayalan (30) – in connection with the incident and charged them under four sections of the IPC. Meanwhile, authorities at the Stanley Medical College and Hospital said Priyadarshini, undergoing treatment after suffering a fracture in her right leg, was in a stable condition now. “She is being treated in the ICU and the fracture is being treated by the orthopedics emergency department specialists. There are also minor injuries on her hands and the other leg,” said Dr M Ramesh, Resident Medical Officer of the hospital.
